Western Michigan vs Northern Illinois game preview

Why West Michigan wins

Really, how much does Northern Illinois care about this?

It has bigger fish to fry with everything coming out of the East at next week’s MAC Championship, and Western Michigan is looking to score a stronger pot hole in the MAC pecking standings.

The Broncos have been disappointing – they are the ones who were supposed to go to Detroit next week – and have lost three of their last four games.

However, the attack has been superb – it’s spanned nearly 1,500 yards in the last three games and the defense has been fantastic in the third defeats thanks to a great passing dash.

Northern Illinois doesn’t generate a lot of pressure, but…

Why would Northern Illinois win?

The offense became ballistic, averaging over 500 yards per game over four games.

The pass attack rolled against Kent State—the only loss since the date was dropped against Michigan in mid-September—and the ground attack rattled over Buffalo for more than 300 yards.

What is the Western Michigan case? It seems to change every week, but it has been pretty inconsistent overall.

No, Northern Illinois doesn’t need this game, but…

What will happen

It’s a big night. It’s an opportunity to make some noise on national TV, and still needs to keep working given that the running defense should be absolutely better and the team has played with fire a lot more often.

The last seven games have been decided by relegation or less, and both huskies have shown the strength to advance in six of them.

But there will be disappointment.

The Western Michigan attack will take over the run in the fourth quarter to dominate the clock better than the Huskies will.

Once again, Northern Illinois has bigger things to prepare for.
